Brothers, There is still an opportunity to participate in the ArrowCorps5
experience. If you are interested in joining our contingent to George
Washington and Jefferson (June 21-28) or maybe attending one of the other
sites please contact Charlie “Mac” McKinley at macjan@bellsouth.net
for up to date information about joining in the adventure. We need to
add two adults to our contingent roster to have a more acceptable ratio
of adults to youth. Please spread the word if you know someone who might
be interested but missed this message. But time is of the essence because
the application deadline is May 31st . If you would like to participate
but are in need of financial assistance contact Marilynn Parker 2nparker@bellsouth.net
to discuss assistance. For general information about
ArrowCorps5 and/or staff positions visit: For more information about
the Egwa contingent contact:
EGWA FELLOW PROGRAM
What is the Egwa Fellow program? It is your way to help off set the high cost of our Lodge members attending OA events who normally could not afford to participate. During the summer of 2008, 5,000 Arrowmen are participating in a National service project at 5 National Forest sites around the country. Our Lodge Contingent has selected Washington and Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. All donations are welcome, but a gift of $100 or more qualifies you to receive a thank you gift; our Lodge’s ArrowCorps5 patch with a red mylar border. This two patch set list all 5 of the National Forests sites and was made by our Licensed BSA supplier with an unique design approved by the National BSA Supply Staff. For more information about our Egwa Fellow program, please
contact Mrs. Marilynn Parker,
GENERAL
INFORMATION
The Order of the Arrow has had a long-standing interest in coordinating a national service project, utilizing the infrastructure and leadership established over many years of success at the Boy Scouts of America's high adventure bases. Working closely together, the United States Forest Service and the OA have chosen five project sites, spread across America, that will be the focus of our combined efforts. ArrowCorps5 (pronounced Arrow Corps Five) will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for each participant to set an example of leadership in service to those who treasure our national forests. Five thousand physically fit and able volunteers (determined by the "Philmont Weight Limits for Backpacking & Hiking"), made up of youth and adults, will participate. The national Order of the Arrow committee and key sponsors will fund the projects. Participants will pay a reasonable fee to help pay for accommodations, meals, and a full day of recreational activities during the projects. Additional information will be available through the National Bulletin and National Order of the Arrow Web Site in the future. Mark Twain National Forest will be the first of the five sites to be featured starting in the fourth quarter of 2006 with the other four sites following in 2007. All locations and dates appear below.
If you are interested in being on ArrowCorps5 staff in the summer of 2008, visit the Staff Page on the OA national website. What are the details? The Order of the Arrow needs you for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! During the summer of 2008, the Order of the Arrow will deliver one of the largest conservation efforts in Scouting's history. ArrowCorps5 will be unlike any program the Boy Scouts of America has ever offered. More than 5,000 Arrowmen will converge on five national forests over five different weeks to make a difference that will literally last a lifetime. Whether building new trails or helping preserve nearly extinct species, you will be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Arrowmen from across the country to improve our forests, our lands, and our world. Open to both youth and adult Arrowmen, ArrowCorps5 will teach you valuable leadership and conservation skills you can take home to your lodge to bring the Outdoor Code to life in your community. We hope that you will consider being on staff at one (or more!) of the five ArrowCorps5 sites. If you are interested, please give us your contact information at the ArrowCorps5 Staff Interest Portal at www.ac5.oa-bsa.org. This is the first step to being on staffbut sign up quickly so we know you are interested! Staff members will be chosen carefully based on their leadership skills, experience, and commitment to the ideals of the ArrowCorps5 project. Importantly, many ArrowCorps5 staff members will be expected to attend the 2007 National Conservation and Leadership Summit to be trained in the skills needed for ArrowCorps5 in 2008. Please continue to visit the national OA Web site ( www.oa-bsa.org ) for more information about the 2008 ArrowCorps5 project. Information on the various sites, dates, and registration are available there. ArrowCorps5 will be the opportunity of a lifetime. What you give at that event will give to others for years to come. Be a part of something bigger than yourself -- be of service. |
