Arrowmen must complete the following requirements each year in which they are to earn this award.
1. Fulfill 8 hours of service to a council camp and/or scouting program.
(Service to the Lodge is excluded from this tabulation.)
2. Fulfill 8 hours of community service planned by the Chapter or Lodge.

Chapter Reports Announcement

Attention Chapters:

This is the easiest way for your Chapter to communicate to other Chapters and to the Lodge about what your Chapter has done or is planning to do in the near future. We strongly encourage every Chapter Chief or Secretary to submit a Chapter report to vccommunications@aacegwa.org by the stated deadlines.

Chapter Reports

Achewon Woapalanne

The Brothers of Achewon Woapalanne have added a second meeting to our schedule. We now meet every first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM at Canton United Methodist Church. The first Thursday meeting we cover any business before the chapter, include a Native American game or activity, and include some time for Ceremony, Drum and Dance Team practice. The second meeting is dedicated entirely to team practices. We hope to be able to demonstrate dramatic improvement in the quality of our teams at Pow Wow, Conclave, Ordeals and other OA events. We ended 2009 with our final service project of the year - Cherokee Thanksgiving, where we helped to serve Turkey dinners to some 2,500 resident of the county and surrounding areas. Our final event was a Winter Social. We gathered at Camp Windy Waters and enjoyed a weekend of great food, fun fellowship, great food, regalia making, service, and great food. What a weekend! We are ready to jump into the new year as we complete Unit Elections and Summer Camp Promotions, District Crossover events and preparation for upcoming Pow Wow and Conclave. We have much to do and we are ready.

Cvmpe Vekiwv

Congratulations to all of Cvmpe. This year we were awarded Honor Chapter. It is with all of the effort of our Arrowmen, youth and adult, that this was achieved. With hard work, effort and giving back to our communities we were awarded this honor: but, with a handshake, a pat on the back, and a quiet Thank You, were the real gifts given by regular people who just get by day by day. This year’s Banquet was great. Good food and fellowship were had by all. We were represented by many brothers from our Chapter.

Remember Arrowmen, this year you have only 4 opportunities to seal your membership to brotherhood. Please take advantage of the closest one available. “Arrow of Light” practice will happen on the Third Thursday of each month at LDS Church, Scoggin Rd., Dallas, GA. All arrowmen interested please come by and be on the team. Also, Ordeal and Brotherhood Teams meet and practice every Tuesday night at the Alpha Fowler Community Room. Please, all arrowmen are invited to join and become a team member.

We are looking forward to next weekend’s Indian Seminar in Statesville, North Carolina. From past Seminars, I am looking to having a great time and learn much. We are hoping to see as many of you as possible. This will be money well worth spending.

Echota

Echota Chapter would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! We have mainly discussed upcoming OA elections in order to introduce more Brothers to our chapter. We have also talked about our ceremony teams for future Scout inductions, and are looking at opportunities to help out our community.

Etowah

The Etowah Chapter meets monthly on the first Wednesday from 7:30 - 8:30 PM at Chamblee First United Methodist Church located at 4147 Chamblee Dunwoody Road Chamblee, GA. We also meet on the third Wednesday for our Indian Affairs evening where we have ceremony practice and Indian crafts. We're working on also having dance and drumming. Indian Affairs meetings are from 7:30 - 8:30 at the same location as the Chapter meetings. Planning for our Spring Camporee is coming along nicely. If your troop hasn't yet signed up for a game or event please contact us and do so soon! If you have any questions you may contact Scott Filipek at scottfilipek@gmail.com or 404-401-9488.

Nagatamen

Nagatamen has a busy year planned and the schedule keeps filling up. We had a total of Nine boys at our last Chapter meeting which means our numbers are definately on the rise. Our Chapter meetings are the second Wednesday of every month at Shiloh UMC in Covington. Our Ceremonies teams are starting back up and we plan to perform at the ordeals and be judged both at Spring Pow Wow and Conclave. Our Ceremonies Practices are every other week on Wednesdays. We have a teepee floor cutting date set for Moday the 18th. We are hosting our ditricts one day scout exposition where we will have our teepees set up to promote interest in the Order. We are also planning a Chapter trip to Cherokee North Carolina to visit the indian reserve and learn more about their culture.

2009 Quality Lodge

Quality Lodge recognition is a mark of a successful lodge with good programs, active and trained members, and a strong record of supporting the council and other branches of Scouting. Lodges that are truly successful should look at these requirements as a minimum standard of expectations of your service to the council. As such, use these requirements as a starting point in planning your goals for the year.

As a new lodge officer or adviser, you may ask yourself: “Where do I start?” Yes, this list of requirements can seem intimidating at best, but this Guidebook is designed to eliminate that intimidation. As you begin to plan your new lodge yearly program, use it as a resource to establish your lodge goals, and work those goals toward achieving National Quality Lodge.

Why strive to be a National Quality Lodge? Because it is expected of you! The National Quality Lodge petition was designed, not only to recognize success, but also to establish the standard for lodges in fulfilling their purpose to their council.

Guide for Officers and Advisors

The National Order of the Arrow Committee recently voted to make materials more readily available to lodge leaders. As a result, the Guide for Officers and Advisers is now available online. This book provides support for lodge and chapter leaders. It reflects the current policies concerning the organization and administration of the Order of the Arrow Lodge. All lodge and chapter officers and advisers should have a copy.

Order of the Arrow Troop Representative Position PatchTroop/Team RepresentativeOrder of the Arrow Team Representative Position Patch

The National Committee of the Order of the Arrow ensured the organization’s primary duty to a Scout’s unit be maintained by the initiation of the Troop/Team Representative program.

This programmatic enrichment of the Order of the Arrow and BSA has enabled a Scout to act as a liaison between the OA and their troop or team by becoming a Representative which, in addition, qualifies as a leadership position for rank advancement. In the unit, the Representative acts as a link for communication and program in service to other Arrowmen as well as those Scouts and Scouters who are not members of the organization at present.

The program’s goal is to strengthen the mission of the Lodge and the Boy Scouts of America, as well as the aiding of the attainment of the purpose of the Order. The Representative’s goal is to strengthen the image of the Order of the Arrow as a program enhancement in service of the unit.

For more information including responsibilities and resources vist the OA Troop/Team Representative website, or contact the OA Troop Representative Committee Chairman Will Horton.
